What is AYSO soccer and what commitments are involved?
AYSO (American Youth Soccer Organization) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing youth soccer opportunities for children of all skill levels and backgrounds. The program focuses on developing players’ skills, fostering teamwork, and promoting positive sportsmanship in a fun, inclusive environment. AYSO runs soccer leagues for kids starting in the spring of their pre-K 3 year all the way through senior year of high school (so basically, ages 4-19 ish).
As for commitments, players and their families should expect the following:
- Season Duration: The typical AYSO season lasts 8 weeks with two seasons per school year (spring and fall)
- Practice Commitment: Players attend practice once a week for 45 min-1 hour on Saturdays at parks around Pleasantville
- Game Commitment: Games are typically held once a week on Sunday afternoons
- Volunteer Commitment: AYSO is a volunteer-driven organization, so parents and guardians are expected to help with team management, field setup, and other roles throughout the season.
